A quick growing, upright shrub that is easy to grow and has dark green, feathery foliage and large flat heads of crimson red flowers. It is summer flowering and has been used since ancient times as a wound dressing and as a tea for general health benefits.
Red Yarrow is not a culinary plant but is an excellent traditional home remedy plant for wound dressings and as a tea for suppression of flu symptoms.
Yarrow has been part of the naturopath’s medicine cabinet for over 2000 years. Its main use was to aid in treatment of open wounds and in helping with the reduction of symptoms of the flu and the common cold. Yarrow tea has been used for many generations to give relief from a range of winter ills. A couple of times a day is best. There are some side affects and it shouldn’t be taken during pregnancy.
Plant in almost any position in the herb or perennial garden, it prefers moist but well drained soil with high organic content.
Regular applications of Healthy Earth NPK liquid fertiliser in spring, summer and autumn will keep the plants healthy and growing well.
