This perennial is a collector's delight. One of those plants which turns up once every few of years....so when it's available we reckon you should grab one because chances are, you won't see it for a while.
This is a shade-loving perennial which is winter dormant. In spring the new leaves emerge...they are spectacular! They open in pairs, like unfurling umbrellas, on long. slender stems to 60cm. The leaves themselves can be up to 40cm diameter, are hexagonal, glossy and heavily marbled/spotted, deep red-maroon.
The long petalled 5cm, crimson flowers hang beneath the leaves mid-late spring.
Grow in semi to full shade. Spotty Dotty loves a rich and well composted, moist and free draining soil.
Plant beneath deciduous trees with Bleeding Heart, Hellebores, Hostas, Violets, Azaleas, Rhododendrons and Camellias.
