Radicchio is an Italian salad ingredient related to chicory. It has a rich maroon colour, white veins and a sharp, peppery flavor that adds a wonderful bite to salads. High in Vitamins A, B1 and C so harvest, rinse and use straight away.
Plant in rich organic soil that is moist but well drained.
Use in salads with lightly cooked vegetables such as mushrooms, asparagus, snow peas or meats including ham and bacon.
|Harvest||Harvest leaves regularly all year round. The peak season for radicchio is midwinter to early spring, but in cool summer regions it can be grown year-round. The slightly bitter taste of radicchio sweetens with cooler day temperatures.|
