This is a large growing Bird of Paradise which is more cold tolerant than its orange and blue flowered cousin.
The leaves and overall form resemble a Banana palm. The stems can reach 4m tall and form a clump up to 1.5m wide over time in Canberra. It needs a sheltered position, with protection from heavy frost and grows very well in large decorative pots, troughs or planter boxes.
This plant also makes and excellent specimen for atriums, conservatories and indoors.
